BiblioHELP: ask your library

BiblioHELP is the online information and support tool of the University of Milan Library Service. BiblioHELP offers you:

  • Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs), which you can filter by topic or search by keywords;
  • A form to send your enquiry to the libraries;
  • A dedicated email address to send your enquiry to the Digital Library (electronic resources);
  • A dedicated email address to send your enquiry to the University archives.

If you do not find the answer to your question in the FAQs, please fill the enquiry form or send an email to the dedicated email address, submitting your question in a clear and detailed manner.

Who can access the service?

The service is available to anyone who needs it.
Please note that resources included in the Digital Library can be accessed from personal devices and off campus only by those who are currently working for or studying at the University of Milan. 


How do I send an enquiry?

In order to send your enquiry, you can:

  • Fill the enquiry form available on the BiblioHELP home page, for enquiries addressed to the libraries;
  • Write an email to bd.help@unimi.it (please use your University email address, @studenti.unimi.it or @unimi.it or @guest.unimi.it), if you need information on the Digital Library resources, or support in case of malfunctions or access problems;
  • Write an email to archivi.statale@unimi.it, for enquiries regarding the University archive collections and how to access and consult archives.

How long does it take to get a reply?

Within three working days you will receive a reply to the email address which you indicated in the form or used to send your enquiry to the Digital Library or the archives.


To which questions can I expect an answer?

If you ask a question to the libraries using the enquiry form available on the BiblioHELP home page, we can provide you with:

  • Information on the University library services;
  • Information on how to use the available research tools;
  • Help on how to locate books and journals at libraries;
  • Introductory bibliographic references on a particular topic;
  • Support for bibliographic verifications.

If you write to the support email address of the Digital Library, bd.help@unimi.it, we can reply to questions regarding:

  • Information on resources to which the University has subscribed and how to use them;
  • Failure to access an electronic resource covered by subscription (databases, electronic books and journals);
  • Difficulties with off-campus access and use of the proxy server, as well as problems in downloading articles;
  • Information on particular configurations required to access the Digital Library resources.

If you write to the support email address of the archives, archivi.statale@unimi.it, you can obtain:

  • Information on the archive collections of the University of Milan;
  • Information on how to access and consult the archives.

Information and services not provided

BiblioHELP is not the right communication tool if you need:

  • Extensive bibliographic searches, for which you can use the bibliographic information service of each library;
  • Confidential and personal information;
  • Professional advice or opinions;
  • Specific information on administrative procedures (enrolment, grants, etc.), or the organisation of the University and its courses (class timetables, programmes, etc.), which can be found on the University website;
  • Interlibrary loans and document deliveries, for which you have to contact the relevant library.
