Borrow a book and return it at any of our libraries

Starting from today, you can choose to pick up the books you reserved via Minerva, the University Library Service catalogue, at any of our libraries.
After logging in with your university email, search for the book you need, click on “Request” and then select the library where you want to pick it up. We will bring the book directly to the selected library.

You will receive an email as soon as the book is available for pick-up at your chosen location. Please wait for this confirmation email before going to the library.

As always, you can renew your loans from your Minerva account, but only if the loan period hasn’t expired and no one else has requested the book.
We remind you that you can also return books to any of our libraries, choosing the most convenient for you. Just take the book to the reception desk, or use the return boxes located outside each library.

Extension of the JSTOR Covid-19 expanded access program

The JSTOR Covid-19 Expanded Access program has been extended on a trial basis until 12/31/2023. The program provides, upon completion of the collections already subscribed by University of Milan, access to the following resources:

  • Journal archives (Arts & Sciences I-XV; Business IV; Hebrew Journals; Ireland; Life Sciences; Public Health Journals);
  • Thematic collections (Lives of Literature; Security Studies; Sustainability);
  • Primary sources archives (Global plants; 19th Century British Pamphlets; Struggles for Freedom: Southern Africa; World Heritage Sites: Africa)

Practical workshop on JoVE

Jove's team designed a practical workshop to support teaching staff in planning lessons.

Thursday 7 September at 2.30 pm: register Interactive workshop (Moodle session)

The 30-40 minute workshop is an opportunity to discover how to integrate multimedia content into lessons, saving time and involving the class with an innovative approach.
To participate, simply register at the links indicated above, so that you can also receive the registration, if you are unable to participate. Before the session you can select playlists based on the discipline and consult the scientific textbooks mapped to the JoVE videos.

""The University Library Service of the University of Milan is pleased to invite you to the first Erasmus+ Library Staff Training Week, which will be held from Monday, 16 October to Friday, 20 October 2023. The main purpose of the week is to provide library staff from foreign universities with the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas, knowledge and best practices regarding academic libraries.

Trial on two collections of Liverpool University Press

Liverpool University Press LogoPlease note that trial access has been activated to two collections of the publisher Liverpool University Press: Exeter Medieval Online and Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment.
The Exeter Medieval Online collection comprises 90 titles (50 accessible during the trial) including monographs, guides, volumes, translations and critical studies by leading scholars in the field with a broad overview of subjects relating to the Middle Ages (500-1500).
The Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment collection includes 580 volumes published between 1955 and 2016 (200 accessible during the trial). First published in 1955, Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment is the first collection focused on Enlightenment studies.
In case of purchase, the collections will be increased annually by the new titles published for the following 5 years.

The trial will be active until next July 31st and for its entire duration access will be guaranteed starting from Minerva. Please complete the form available here.
At the conclusion of the trial and on the basis of the questionnaires collected, the possibility of purchasing the resource will be evaluated.

Jove: webinar on the use of video to support teaching and research

On May 3 Jove organized a webinar in English for faculty and researchers of our University to present Jove Reasearch and Jove Education. The meeting of about an hour presents contents and functionalities of the multidisciplinary video resource supporting research & education, showing how to access Jove and how to integrate its videos in Ariel.

New platforms to access Wolters Kluwer's law data bases

""Starting from Minerva, access to the new One Legale and One Fiscale platforms is available, which will replace the publisher's current platform during the year. The new interface allows integrated consultation of all subscribed law resources published by Wolters Kluwer Italia, including La Mia Biblioteca ebooks and ejournals
Furthermore, the new interface is more intuitive thanks to the use of natural language, a more innovative and reliable search engine as it suggests the most relevant legal synonyms for the keyword entered, better legibility of the document text and better visibility and use of correlations. Logo AstridSince January 2023, access to the Astrid legal database managed by the Foundation for Analysis, Studies and Research on the Reform of Democratic Institutions and on innovation in public administrations has been available through Minerva
Astrid collects over 80,000 documents (articles, papers, dossiers) and allows you to search for institutional documents, papers, publications, etc. on a wide range of topics (e.g. institutional and administrative reforms, competition and market regulation, European Union issues and public finance). 
The portal is freely available, but access to all documents (including the Astrid rassegna) is only possible from two workstations in the University. The access and booking methods are indicated on the pages of the Biblioteca di Scienze politiche and the Biblioteca di Studi giuridici e umanistici
The documents can be downloaded and used only for study and research purposes.

Oxford Scholarship Online: new ebooks in the area of the humanities

""More than 6.000 ebooks from Oxford University Press are available for a trial period ending 31 December 2023. All titles, in the areas of archaeology, classical studies, linguistics, literature, history and music, are accessible via Minerva, the University catalogue
At the end of the year a list of titles will be selected for acquisition.

Orbis M&A

Logo OrbisStarting from the end of 2022, the Zephyr database will be replaced by the Orbis M&A database characterized by an improved and more intuitive interface. Zephyr and Orbis M&A contain the same information. Access is available for 2 simultaneous users by Minerva.
The contemporary access of the two databases will be maintained until the final withdrawal of Zephyr.

Virtual training sessions can be carried out on the new interface. In case of interest, you can report to bd.help@unimi.it.

To the users of CRSP through WRDS platform: 1925 US Stock Database, 1925 US Indexes Database, Survivor-Bias-Free US Mutual Fund Database

""As of October 2022 subscription to the resources accessible through WRDS platform (Wharton Research Data Services) expired.
In accordance with the Center for Research in Security Prices’ agreement, users registered on the WRDS platform are invited to delete from their devices the data downloaded during the subscription period of the resource.

New Library Seat Reservation System

Starting from 23 May 2022, we will update our seat reservation system. Users will still reserve their seat through the LezioniUnimi App or the web, but it will be easier to authenticate and manage reservations. Moreover, slot options will become more flexible.
Update the App or download the last version to have all the new features on mobile phones.

It will be a two-step process

1. From Monday, 23 May 2022:

  • Institutional users will log in using their University e-mail credentials
  • Reservations will be managed in the user's personal area

2. During the following week, other features will be gradually introduced in all libraries:

  • Users will be able to select a time slot in any library 
  • Users leaving earlier than expected can vacate their seat in advance and make it available to other users from their personal area
  • If a user is more than 30 minutes late, their seat will automatically be made available to other users
  • Seats are numbered and automatically assigned

As always, seat reservation will be required for study and consultation rooms only, not for collecting or returning library materials.

Minerva, the catalogue of all University bibliographic resources, is online

MinervaWith Minerva, you can search all University collections, both printed and online, from a single access point.
The new tool is a very powerful, state-of-the-art information and bibliographic search software: information-retrieval, result-ranking and search-refinement technologies make for an effective, user-friendly search system. Just a few clicks, and you will retrieve your document, find new information resources, and directly access library services.
Minerva replaces and integrates the tools we have used so far for searching and retrieving documents: The Catalogue, Explora, e-journal and e-book lists, and the Bibliounimi App.
Our librarians will assist you in libraries and online with meetings on Minerva. Moreover, short tutorials illustrating its key features are always available.

New trial: a new module on Clinical Key Student platform

From 15th April until 15th July will be open a new module on Clinical Key Student platform.
This module provides the possibility to create personalized quizzes out of a pool of over 4000 questions on basic science and clinical medicine covering all medical specialties. All questions are written by an editorial board of specialists, provide in-line remediation and references to relevant CKS content for further reading.
The Assessment capability also allows monitoring of progresses by each individual user through their personal profile as well as by faculty via integration into the Learning Management System (LMS) of the University.

Wiley: 22.000 new ebooks

Access has been renewed until 31 December 2021 to the catalog of ebooks of the publisher Wiley: over 22,000 titles available to the entire University community for consultation and download. The complete list of e-books acquired is available on the publisher's website: just click in the box to the right named: Wiley Catalogo Ebook. You can also search the titles in Minerva, the University library catalogue.

New resource: ClinicalKey Student

A new resource for biomedical researchers is avalaible: ClinicalKey Student on Elsevier’s platform. It includes around 250 books of medicine, anatomy and physiology. The platform also contains even, 2.000 video, around 150.000 pictures and more. All contents are searchable through an integrated search engine.

The University digital Library now subscribes to Wolters Kluwer Italia. The platform gives access to 33 periodicals published by IPSOA, CEDAM, UTET Giuridica and il Fisco.

The Digital Library provides one year access to 31.000 ebooks of Cambridge University Press in the areas of humanities and social sciences. The collection comprises titles from several publishers purchased by CUP and published from 1932.

You can scroll the list of CUP's partner publishers.

The titles will be available in Minerva.

Health emergency: new provisions for libraries

Pursuant to the Prime Minister's Decree of December 3, 2020 and the subsequent University provisions for teaching and training activities, our libraries only provide loan services (reservation required through the Catalogue Minerva), return and consultation services (reservation required via the web or the App lezioniUnimi). 
Access to the rooms will be allowed in compliance with the safety measures required by the health emergency.

University libraries are safely open

Locandina accesso COVIDAs the new academic year begins, our libraries make their services available in compliance with Covid-19 safety measures. To access a library, you must wear a face mask covering your nose and mouth, abide by distancing measures and sanitize your hands with the disinfectant solutions made available at the entrance.

Study and consultation in reading rooms. To study at a library, you have to reserve a seat through our web portal or mobile app "lezioniUnimi". The seating arrangement ensures at least one-meter distance between users. Group study is not allowed, tables and chairs cannot be moved.

Book loan and return. To borrow a book, apply online from Minerva, the University Catalogue and follow the collection instructions in the confirmation pop-up. To return a book, place it in the containers that you will find at the library. The book will be recorded as returned after 48 hours' isolation. If you are unable to come to the library, you can send the book by post or courier at your own expense to the address of the owning library. To check the expiration of your loans, access your Personal Area in the Catalogue. Seat reservation is not required to borrow or return a book.

Remote services are always available. Check the #bibliounimidacasa page for updated information.

  • Factiva, from Dow Jones: essential business news and information together with the content delivery tools and services
  • Atoka research: search engine on Italian companies
  • Orbis Intellectual Property: company and patent information for intellectual property management and strategy
  • Westlaw UK, a full text databases of United Kingdom case law, legislation, news, legal journals, commentary and EU legal materials
  • Lexis360, a complete data base of French law

'Value added taxation in Europe' and 'European Tax Explorer plus': suspension of subscription

As of 1 January 2019 subscriptions to 'Value added taxation in Europe' and 'European Tax Explorer plus' have not been renewed. Users will no longer have access to both resources within the IBFD database (International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation).

Access to both 'Bulletin for International taxation online' and 'European Taxation journals' has been maintained via the Digital library's list of databases.

We would like to inform digital library users that there is a new ebook for biomedical researchers: Chackalamannil, Samuel, Rotella, David, Ward, Simon. Comprehensive Medicinal Chemistry III. Vol 1-8. 3rd ed. GB: Elsevier; 2017. It can be accessed from the ebook list and Explora, the University discovery tool.

For information regarding other closure periods and changes to opening times please consult the page Library hours.

All loans due in the closure period are renewed until the library's reopening.
As for loan requests, they will also be processed when the library reopens.

BiblioHELP online information service will be suspended from 4 to 20 August included.
Digital Library helpdesk service will be suspended from 12 to 27 August.
